BUSD Superintendent's Susan Levine's new blog

This is the first posting in my new blog, the purpose of which is to communicate with the Barstow school district community. I will try to post on a daily basis. My intent is to give information and also let you have a "peek in" to what we do here at the District, and how a school district runs. I am excited! Today was a fairly quiet day at the District office. We are preparing the agenda for the 1/13 Board meeting. Also, I am meeting with our principals to discuss their goals for this year. We had a Management Team meeting at 3:30 today of the entire team, both classified and certificated. I am so very lucky to have such a competent team. Tomorrow night will be another insurance informational meeting. We have to find a new insurance carrier that can give us a better rate. I have made this a top priority! I keep hoping more certificated and classified staff will attend. On a personal note, I am reading a new book, Outliers, by Malcolm Gladwell. It is about what makes a great leader, and maybe I can pick up some tips. I have just finished the first chapter, and I'll keep you posted as I read along. I'm wondering how our HS Boys and Girls Basketball team is doing against Apple Valley tonight. I'm going to try and catch the girls' game next Wednesday night. Susan
