I have followed these 2 young champions since they were freshman, I consider them my friends. Anthony Solis will be attending Chico St on a running scholarship and Isac will be a Senior and next years BHS cross country captain. Congratulations!

NORWALK — Three High Desert athletes took home medals at the CIF Track and Field State Championships on Saturday at Cerritos College. The meet produced national and state records in the 1,600 and 3,200 meters.
Sultana’s Brett Walters ran the boys 3,200 meters in 9 minutes, 6.50 seconds to win the fifth-place medal in his first state championship appearance.
“I wanted a faster time,” Walters said. “I wanted to get like 9:02, 9:01, but I’ll take what I get.”
Walters ran with Riverbank’s German Fernandez, who broke the NFHS national record by almost seven seconds with a time of 8:34.23. Fernandez also broke the CIF state meet record in the 1,600 (4:00.29).“The first mile was really fast, and I’m not used to that,” Walters said. “Kind of suffered after that.”
Barstow’s Anthony Solis and Isaac Chavez finished 11th and 12th, respectively, in the 3,200 and both broke their personal records in their first showing at the state championships.
“I felt pretty good because we are used to going to state in cross country and winning, but track’s way different,” Solis said. “Last year I made it to the (Southern Section division) prelims, and this year I made it to the state so it’s a big improvement.”
Solis ran a time of 9:11.27, while Chavez finished in 9:11.94.
“The competition was great,” Solis said. “I was going super fast the first mile and there were still like a billion guys ahead of me.”
Walters told the Daily Press last year that he didn’t like track as much as cross country, but he said that is changing.
“I liked this year a lot better because I was actually pretty good at (track),” Walters said. “Last year I was pretty slow.”Walters will head to the University of Colorado this September on an athletic scholarship.
