Gomez presents County Resolution

It was an honor to present a resolution on behalf of the County Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt to the BHS cross country team and Coach Duarte. Well deserved award.

All of Barstow has much to be proud of in its state championship winning 2007 cross country team, but it was the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce who took the opportunity Tuesday evening to honor them at a dinner held at Los Domingos attended by mostly families of the boys and Chamber members. Hosts for the event were Joe Gomez and Manny Lopez, with Roland Ulloa in the background. Jim Duarte, the cross country coach, is deservedly proud of his boys: Anthony Solis, Isaac Chavez, Andrew Romano, Ian Barba, Josh Ow, Jeremy Trujillo, Joshua Gomez and A.J. Kanezel. Gloria Saiz, who does the timing for the coach, was there and equally proud. Joe presented the team with a proclamation from the County of San Bernardino. Lying beside the proclamation on the front table were framed team photos that later would be given to all the sponsors of the team. At one point they showed tapes of several of the team’s runs which the families particularly enjoyed. Among those attending were Al and Darlene Romano, grandparents of Andrew Romano and Andrea Romano. Juan and Claire Solis were there for Anthony Solis. Porfie and Virginia Chavez, Leonard and Tammy Trujillo, Richard and Cecelia Barba and Ruben and Lina Gomez were there for their boys as was Andrew Kanezel. Also Jeanie and Ralph Sanchez were there for Josh Ow. Others there were Barbara Rose, representing the Barstow Unified School District and looking beautiful as ever, Gloria Saiz and Krista Aguayo.Fortunately most of the team is returning for the 2008 season, and I know coach Duarte will do everything in his power to get them to go on to better and better times plus glory for them selves and Barstow. These young men exemplify what team spirit is all about.
