Youth of Barstow in the news

John Ordonez, crowned Mr. Aztec
The Annual Mr.Aztec competition for Barstow High School Seniors was held last night at the boys gym. 14 contestants entertained a packed house, from dancing to jump roping, even a comedy act by Aaron Craig, not to mentioned the 'Mexican hat dance" performed by Carlos Perez. The panel of guest judges for the event included SFC Ortega, Barstow School District Board member Julie Clemmer, Scott Fig stand up comedian and KDUC DJ, Council member Steve Curran and myself. We all enjoyed the 14 contestants performing and sharing their talents. Congratulation to Mr. Aztec of 2007 John Ordonez.

BARSTOW - Kids don't normally jump up and down about testing. They don't normally cheer, and it doesn't normally make them dance. Then again, kids also don't normally associate testing with a giant duck mascot and a local rapper. But maybe they do now. The staff of Barstow Junior High School and a local radio station pumped up students for the upcoming round of state testing by holding a pep rally at the end of the school day on Monday.
