Barstow Police Chief announces his retirement

After three decades of law enforcement service in one local community, a police chief has announced his retirement. Barstow Police Chief Caleb Lee Gibson will finish up his final days with the department this month. In my opinion he will always be a police officer in his heart, whether he is wearing a badge or not. He began his career in 1978 as a reserve officer for the Barstow Police Department and moved up the ladder until he was promoted to Chief of Police in 2003. In the last few weeks I have been frustrated by rumors and saddened by the loss of officers. With all the controversy, I know the Chief would have preferred to storm the weather until it all calmed down. Chief Gibson has always treated me with respect and welcomed me as City Council member. He fought hard to get the officers a 25% raise last year. His job has always been very political, it's hard trying to please everyone, believe me I know. Please allow the Chief to retire with some sense of dignity, whether you agree with him or not, after 30 years of service to the City of Barstow, he has earned my respect. I wish the Chief and his family the best of Luck. Joe
