Girl killed in bike accident
By AARON AUPPERLEE Staff Writer March 13, 2007 - 8:18AM BARSTOW — A 10-yearold Barstow girl was killed Sunday when a pickup truck struck her as she rode her bike on the 1400 block of East Rimrock Road... (Full Story)
Last night during the City Council meeting I directed staff, without objection of the Mayor and other council members to evaluate a 4 way stop light at the Muriel/Rimrock intersection and requested a history of accidents, injuries and deaths. I have made the request in the past, but no one took me serious. Kayla Crawford was tragically killed by a vehicle on March 11, 2007. Kayla's teacher Mr. Bill Ernest and her 4th grade classmates sent us letters addressing Kayla's accident and requesting stop lights for Monterrey/Rimrock intersection. I would like to share a few as written;
Dear City Council, My friend Kayla died on Rimrock Sunday night at 7:00 pm. She was hit by a car. All we are asking you to do is put up stop signs and stop lights up so everybody could be safer. When people are walking with their children, I get scared because they could get hit by a car. We just want you guys to put up more signs and lights so everybody can be safer. Signed "D" Crestline Elementary
Dear City Council, I am writing to you because we people of Barstow are tired of not having a stoplight or stop sign. Some people have got killed or seriously injured because of this problem. So we ask you with love and care, please put a stop sign on Rimrock Rd. Signed "D, A" Crestline
Dear City Council, We really need a stop light on Rimrock, by our school. We can get killed, but you are too lazy to notice, you guys are supposed to do whats best for us children. So far I haven't seen an act to prevent this. This is what can happen.
- Get hit by car
- Car wreck
- Someone hit the crossing guard
You should pay attention, cause life comes at you fast.
Signed "A"
Crestline
