The Barstow Park and Recreation District T-Ball League kicked off it's season Saturday with pictures of all the teams and players at the Robert Sessions Sports Park.
Go home! Steal third! Great play! If you haven’t guessed, it’s baseball season or shall I say T-Ball season. I don’t coach baseball anymore, but I did enjoy coaching the sport. It was fun teaching the children how to bat and throw the ball. It’s the season I look forward to every year. I didn’t really know what to expect, and in practices the coaches tried hard to teach players how to throw and catch a ball. I think it was the hardest thing to do, considering the attention span of a 3-year-old. This is the time to teach the kids about the fundamentals, not only about baseball. It's about sportsmanship, enthusiasm, respect, friendship, encouragement, discipline and teamwork.
The stands were filled with proud parents, grandparents and even great grandparents sharing and witnessing a first hit or catch of their future stars. All the children were cute sporting their uniforms and new glove. This is only the beginning, year after year, you will watch them grow and develop into the higher leagues and they will be able to create good memories of playing catch with their dad, waiving to their grandparents and making friends.
Thanks to all the coaches, team moms and volunteers that make this program a success. A special thanks to Sports park Manager Terri Peralta and the City of Barstow staff for organizing opening day.
